Location: SW7 (7 minutes from South Kensington tube station)
This is an American/French family of 2 adults and 5 children (ages 5 to 16 – all at school full-time).
The main language spoken in the home is English.
Currently they have a House Manager/Driver, a weekend housekeeper, and a part time laundress/housekeeper who works 5 hours a day. All their staff have worked for them long term. They also have a team of 3 cleaners who do an in-depth cleaning of the property once a week on a Friday. Their full time housekeeper has recently moved overseas for personal reasons so the family are looking for a new housekeeper/cook.
The role is Monday to Friday and they ideally need someone to work from 7am to 6pm (or they can work 12 hours a day if they wish to earn more).
The main duties of the role are:
To get the two youngest children (aged 5 and 7) ready for school in the morning and to prepare a simple breakfast for all 5 children.
The driver then takes the children to school.
Once the children have left for school, the housekeeper usually tidies up the kitchen area, gets the laundry started, tidies the bedrooms and makes the beds, empties bins, wipes down children’s desks (ensuring pencils are sharpened etc). Do a quick once over of the bathrooms (in depth bathroom cleaning is carried out by the cleaners on Fridays). Bedlinen is changed once a week. There is very little mopping or vacuuming as the part time housekeeper/laundress usually takes care of this in the afternoons. The part-time housekeeper/laundress also does all the ironing and she sweeps the front and back garden areas.
The other duty is cooking for the family. This is usually a light lunch for the lady of the house and preparing dinner for the family (they all eat the same). The food needs to be ready for around 2.30pm as the children eat at different times (although they all eat the same food).
Morning snacks also need to be prepared as well as a school lunch box for one of the children.
There is some pantry management required, writing up shopping lists for the driver (he does all the grocery shopping), etc.
When kids are back from school the housekeeper is responsible for emptying out their school bags, ensuring water bottles are cleaned out and refilled for the next day, sport items washed, etc
The children wear school uniforms to school and they wear a clean uniform every day so it is also important to ensure that the chidren’s uniforms are ready for the next day and the three youngest’s shoes are clean and polished for school.
Once the children arrive home from school (at varying times starting from around 3.45pm), the housekeeper will ensure that the two youngest get onto their zoom after-school activities. The Housekeeper will also assist the 5 year old with shower time.
There is a very good routine set up in this household and the family are ideally seeking someone who is a good self-starter, proactive, confident cook and a happy team player. Good English is a must.
About the property: it is 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, small guest bathroom, family room, office, living room, dining room, kitchen.
There are no pets. No babysitting required. This is an informal family.
Salary: up £14.50 net per hour.
Hours of work: Monday to Friday 11 or 12 hours per day with breaks.
